MN CGA Free Damage Prevention Meetings

Every year the MN Regional Common Ground Alliance offers FREE Damage Prevention Meetings to prepare your crews for the coming construction season and review best practices in Call Before You Dig.

These sessions are located across the state in the winter and early spring. To find one near you and reserve your spot, visit the MN CGA website here.

I’m a firm believer in saying ‘Merry Christmas’ during this time of year. It’s not offensive to wish someone to be well, happy and merry.

Similar to our Annual Meeting keynote speaker Mark Scharenbroich’s ‘Nice Bike’ message. Merry Christmas is simply two words that develop a connection, convey a warm greeting and show appreciation to another human being.

It is my warmest wish for all MUCA Members and their families to have a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy and prosperous New Year!

November Budget Forecast Projects Deficit

As I’m sure you’ve heard, the office of Minnesota Management and Budget (MMB) released its forecast on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The MMB is projecting a budget deficit for fiscal year 2018-19 of $188 million for the upcoming biennium.

This deficit does not account for funding the legislature for two years. Once that bill is passed, our deficit will be $302 million.

Don’t panic, though. Gov. Dayton stated that the November forecast is mostly speculative as it doesn’t account for a federal tax bill that may be passed soon, nor does it account for any economic uncertainty in 2018. The governor said he would wait until the February Budget and Economic Forecast in late February or early March to release any supplemental budget proposals.
