Executive Order Targets Environmental Permitting

From: Clean Water Construction Coalition

President Donald Trump signed an executive order last Tuesday, "establishing discipline and accountability in the environmental review and permitting process for infrastructure projects."

The Order echoed the overarching theme of the President’s 2017 Infrastructure Week address, reiterating that the current environmental process is cumbersome, often unnecessarily delaying and even blocking projects from getting built.

The transportation and utility industry sees this guidance as essential to speeding up project rollout, as it aims to reduce approval time to two years or less by creating mechanisms for agency goals and accountability in addition to a "One Federal Decision" protocol to help shepherd projects through the reviews and permitting process.

The Order also revokes an Obama-era executive order that required federal projects to account for flooding, sea level rise and other consequences of climate change.

The full text of the executive order can be found here.

MUCA Urges Minnesota Legislators to Support H.R. 3387

MUCA sent letters to every Minnesota U.S. Senator and Congressional Representative requesting support for H.R. 3387, a reauthorization measure that substantially increases the annual funding for the Drinking Water SRF program. The bill authorizes $8 billion over a five-year period.

It has been almost two decades since the Drinking Water SRF program has been reauthorized. Read one of the letters sent and feel free to use the content to send your own request for support.
