MUCA Contractor Survey on Utility Hits

On Monday, March 6th, MUCA emailed an on-line survey to our key contacts for Contractor companies. Abandoned, mis-located or no-locate utilities have been an issue for decades. This survey seeks find out how pervasive the problem is, what the costs are for the contractor, and if 'shared responsibility' is a reality. All answers are anonymous.

Surety Bonds 102 Seminar

Thursday, March 23, 6:50 AM – 10 AM
Stinson Leonard Street, 150 South Fifth Street, Suite 2300

Payment and performance bonds can provide the assurance an owner or contractor needs to make sure that subs are paid and the work is completed. The law, however, requires claimants to turn square corners if they want to recover against a surety.
Learn how not to be one of the unfortunate many who have lost bond claims for failing to follow the correct procedures. Join Stinson Leonard Street for part II of its surety series on March 23, 2017, when Bob Huber explains the claim process for surety bonds.

OSHA Boom Truck Certification

Federal OSHA extended its November, 2014 deadline for employers to ensure that crane operators are certified to November, 2017. Read the Final Rule here. The Minnesota OSHA Boom Truck standard requires certification for all booms rated over 5 tons. The Federal requirement is for all booms rated over 2 tons. If you work outside of Minnesota, you may need to comply with the Federal 2 Ton limit. For more information on the Minnesota Statute, click here.

MUCA has contacted the NCCO (National Commission For The Certification of Crane Operators). They stated that if this is the first time certifying, you’ll need to both a written and a ‘practical’ exam. There are only two trainers listed in Minnesota who provide this training:
