$1.5 Billion Surplus Projected for 2020-2021

Outgoing Gov. Mark Dayton is proudly announcing under his leadership 10 of the last 11 budget forecasts have been surpluses. In addition, our reserves are at an all-time high of just over $2 billion.

Minnesota’s taxes rank among the highest in the nation. Hopefully this news will lead to tax relief for businesses and families.

However, Gov.-elect Walz has already started talking about increasing taxes, especially gas taxes, as a high priority.

As an FYI: Minnesota’s government expenditure in 2014 was $31.9 billion; the state’s two-year budget for the coming biennium is projected to approach $48 billion.

The problem isn’t revenue; it’s spending! Stay tuned.
