Unexpected Acknowledgement

I arrived in the office on Monday, April 30 and had a large box waiting for me. In it was this award as the “2018 Damage Prevention Hero” from Damage Prevention Professional magazine.

I don’t know who nominated me, and am humbled to be recognized for the work we’ve all been doing together!

It mentions MUCA, our efforts with Day of the Dozers, the Minnesota Regional Common Ground Alliance, and the MEA Energy Association. None of which would be possible without the support of many individual contributors and members of these various organizations!

To read the text in full, visit the Damage Prevention Professional magazine, Special Edition located online here.

Extra-special thanks to Jerome Vikse with Duininck, Inc., Jeff Law with KorTerra, Whitney Price with Infrastructure Resources, and Joe Groebner with GROEBNER.

MUCA Member Update

MUCA’s MS216D Revisions Update

MUCA, joined by AGC, has been meeting with and testifying in front of legislators to urge passage of our amendment to the MS216D law regarding Gopher State One Call. We are seeking accurate phone numbers to be collected for every utility operator.

Our bill has passed the Senate; it has not been added into the House Omnibus bill. We are seeking to have it incorporated via the Senate through conference committee.

Here is the Senate language as it resides currently. Our proposed changes are either strikethrough or in red.

Contact information required. An operator must furnish any accurate contact information necessary for underground facility damage prevention and emergency damage response requested by the notification center. The contact information for each affected operator must be available upon request to the excavator who has provided the notice under MN Statutes 216D.04 to excavate.”

**If you do not agree with this language, contact Stephanie here.

We are hopeful that this language will be enforced. As you know, the requirement for maps and attending meets is not enforced. This should at least provide contractors with a definitive contact within every utility to call for assistance in identifying an asset and/or confirming its status (live or abandoned), while in the field.

The session ends in three weeks. Stay tuned for updates!
